29/05/2024

During the period 28-29 May 2024, the second edition of Innovative Sustainable Economy Mission 2nd Innovation Camp gathered together Mediterranean S3 policy makers and Euro-MED project partners. The event focused on the role of Smart specialisation strategies (S3) in supporting a green and just transition in the Mediterranean. eWAsTER project, as part of the Innovative Sustainable Economy Mission, was рrepresented by the lead partner (PACT).

During the first day, participants delved into using a methodology developed in cooperation with the European Union to help align innovation initiatives and Smart Specialisation Strategies with the Sustainable Development Goals. More specifically, engaging in two working group sessions, participants applied the methodology to the depopulation from rural and remote areas.

While the second day offered topics of conversation about more concrete interconnection between the objectives of each Euro-MED project with the S3 and with the mission of the Innovative Sustainable Economy. Involving together S3 practitioners with other actors of the innovation ecosystems from the Interreg community, the idea was to strengthen the connections and to share opportunities to work together and find new pathways to address sustainability challenges and SDGs, to explore how the Interreg Euro-MED Innovative Sustainable Economy Mission can support and contribute to promote more transformative smart specialisation strategies

This 2nd edition of the Innovation Camp was organised by the Interreg Euro-MED 2021-2027 Dialogue4Innovation project in collaboration with the Joint Research Centre. Innovation Camp was both a community-building tool and a way to promote the shared understanding of sustainable development challenges and Mediterranean priorities, allowing an open and facilitated debate among quadruple helix stakeholders.
