The Municipality of Neum held a workshop at the Neum High School

13/02/2025

Representatives of the Neum Municipality (Bosnia and Herzegovina) held a workshop at Neum High School, as part of the EWAsTER project. Through a presentation and an interesting quiz, students were introduced to the importance of disposing of e-waste. The purpose of this workshop was to increasing the awareness of citizens from the early school age to reduce waste from electronic and electric equipment’s.

Students were informed about the problems associated with e-waste, such as environmental pollution, resource depletion, and human health. This helped students in the classroom to understand the importance of sustainable consumption and recycling.

EWAsTER project is a direct response to the worryingly low recycling rate of electronic waste in the Mediterranean region. E-waste is the fastest growing type of waste, generated mainly due to the large number of people who own electrical and electronic devices and the speed at which these devices become obsolete. Since they are not biodegradable and not all of them can be recycled, the disposal of these devices has a significant impact on the environment. Their components are literally toxic to the environment, and once thrown into a landfill, they reach the ground, groundwater, and, when burned, the air.

Increasing the awareness of citizens from the early school is as much important as increasing the awareness of the policy representatives at local or regional level!
