The Málaga Provincial Waste Consortium and the Provincial Council are participating in the “awareness-raising” initiative, launching a new and creative campaign, “Did You Know?”, to raise awareness about the hidden cost and surprising potential of electronic waste. The campaign highlights a serious problem: the millions of obsolete phones, cables, and electronic devices lurking in trash drawers and cabinets around the world. Many of these forgotten devices contain valuable materials such as gold, copper, and rare earths, which are themselves potentially polluting and are often disposed of improperly rather than recycled responsibly.
Through a series of eye-catching “Did You Know?” digital cards, created by RSU-Málaga, the campaign highlights strange and surprising facts about e-waste, encouraging the public to think differently about the devices they no longer use. Let’s face it: we all have a graveyard of old technology gathering dust. But what many people don’t realize is that these “ghost gadgets” could be recycled, reused, or even given new life in other devices.
June 8th is World Oceans Day (https://unworldoceansday.org/un-world-oceans-day-2025/). This year, under the theme “Ocean Wonders: Sustaining What Sustains Them,” the initiative highlights the importance of reducing pollution to prevent the destruction of ocean biodiversity.
The Fundación Biodiversidad warns us that coral reefs occupy less than 1% of the ocean’s surface, but a quarter of marine species depend on them. The bleaching that corals are experiencing due to ocean pollution threatens their survival. Full story here!

📸 Swipe. Think. Recycle.
♻️ It’s not you, it’s them—break up with your ex-devices and give them a second life.
Electrical and electronic waste, while not the most abundant, is among the most polluting. Although more and more waste of this type, such as washing machines, refrigerators, televisions, and computers, is being recovered for recycling, new ones have appeared, such as disposable vapes, which exponentially increase the possibility of contamination if not recycled properly.
Soon, we are going to share with you some creative ways to give your old gadgets a second life. Time to turn electronic waste into something surprisingly cool.
Stay tuned!
