Small businesses in BiH test the reuse principle: Electronic waste becomes jewelry and souvenirs

02/09/2025

Bosnia and Herzegovina shows a positive example of sustainable practices in small business. With the support of the eWAsTER project, several small producers of jewelry, souvenirs and handicrafts from Bosnia and Herzegovina have started testing the application of the WEE REUSE principle — the reuse of electronic waste — in their own production. Instead of ending up in the waste, metal and plastic from electronic devices now get a new life in the form of unique and creative products.

This initiative represents an important step towards more sustainable development, a circular economy and a more responsible attitude towards the environment. Electronic waste, which often ends up in landfills and in the waters of the Mediterranean region, represents a serious threat to nature and human health, while through this pilot project it becomes a valuable resource.

Small businesses involved in this pilot test, create unique pieces of jewelry, decorative items and souvenirs that combine creativity, traditional handwork techniques and a contemporary approach to sustainability. In addition to promoting environmental awareness, such products also offer added value to consumers – authenticity and social responsibility.

In the upcoming period, this principle will be tested by agricultural producers, and it is expected that the model will multiply in other sectors throughout the country.
