WEEE REUSE in general
WEEE REUSE promotes the development of new business models for the reuse of plastics and e-waste, focusing on the creation of jobs for vulnerable individuals. Led by LiNK, with partners PACT and ORZ this pilot project is testing now in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Portugal and Slovenia. Partners visited companies, analyzing their profile and assess their capacity to implement new business models. They get involved social enterprises, NGOs and public institutions to promote the reuse and recycling of e-waste as a way to provide employment opportunities for vulnerable individuals (e.g. people with disabilities) or vulnerable social groups. The testing includes the promotion of specific Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) measures in already existing e-waste companies, with the aim of creating new jobs for vulnerable groups.
WEEE REUSE in Slovenia
Our partner Environmental Research Institute (ORZ) is testing the pilot project in Slovenia.
Campaigns & Promoting WEEE Reuse
WEEE Reuse – let’s give e-waste a second life!
As part of the WEEE Reuse pilot project, ORZ partner is developing innovative solutions for reusing e-waste and extending the life span of devices, components and materials.
Why is this important?
- reducing the amount of e-waste
- creating new jobs for vulnerable individuals
- promoting circular economy and sustainable development
- connecting companies and local communities in responsible e-waste management
The sustainable change is only possible with strong partnerships
December 2025
ORZ team pilot had an extremely productive meeting with Zavod Slokva, so.p. The purpose was to present the pilot and open a dialogue about the practical implementation of an innovative model that combines environmental sustainability and social responsibility. Both organizations explored, how the development of sustainable business practices and models can create new, sustainable jobs while contributing to prolonging the life span of products in the field of agriculture. Zavod Slokva, so.p. has shown exceptional interest in being involved in the development of these business models and recognized in it a strategic opportunity to strengthen its sustainability mission and expand social impact in the field of digitalization in agriculture. This collaboration is a great example of how business excellence, environmental awareness, and social inclusion can successfully work together.

#THROWBACKFRIDAY
December 2025
ORZ hosted a meeting with students of the secondary construction, geodetic and environmental school in Ljubljana. As part of the WEEE Reuse pilot project, the students learned through hands-on activities how to give used electronic equipment – from computers to household appliances – a new life cycle. Together they explored the path of the product, the importance of sustainable consumption and the power that each individual has in reducing electronic waste.

“The awareness shown by the young participants is still inspiring us today. We believe that this kind of first-hand learning is the key to sustainable change. Thank you to everyone who participated and shared your energy and curiosity!”, ORZ team.
A key demonstrative aspect
WEEE Reuse pilot is designed as a representation of new, sustainable business models in the field of used electrical and electronic equipment. Its main purpose is to demonstrate how a systematic approach to reuse, repair and renovation of devices can create value while opening up innovative economic areas.
A key demonstrative aspect of the project is connecting these circular models with social inclusion. The project explicitly demonstrates how the electronics reuse chain – from collection to recycling – can become a source of new, accessible jobs.
“With this pilot, we want to prove that it is possible to successfully combine environmental goals of waste reduction with active social policy, especially by creating opportunities for employment and training for those who are more difficult to employ. In short, WEEE Reuse serves as a concrete example of how sustainable practices in the electronic waste sector can directly contribute to a more inclusive and socially responsible economic activity.”, ORZ team.
WEEE Reuse as active part of the European week of waste reduction in Slovenia
November 2025
As part of the pilot of WEEE Reuse, ORZ team presented various new business models, which include heavier employees and used electronics.
The following activities were conducted:
- ETZO WORKSHOP – instructive and very important presentations on e-waste in the center Tuncovec – OKP Rogaška Slatina
- Correct e-waste disposal and showing the path of the device »from submission to reuse in the center Šmarje pri Jelšah
- Practical advice on how to reduce e-waste at home and why it’s important that the devices do not end up in mixed waste in the center Kozje
- Presentation, collection of useful e-devices and information point about circular use of resources, Jager store parking lot

Workshop to promote the reuse of WEEE (WEEE Reuse)
November 2025
In collaboration with the Ljubljana Reuse Center, ORZ team prepared a workshop dedicated to the reuse of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and finding practical ways to extend the lifespan of electronic devices. As part of the ECO Day, students attended an inspiring and practically oriented workshop at CPU Ljubljana, dedicated to the power of reusing and recycling e-waste. The event highlighted the innovative eWAsTER project, which focuses on finding creative ways to extend the lifespan of electronic devices – turning what is often considered “waste” into a valuable resource.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in interactive presentations and hands-on demonstrations, learning how waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) can be repaired, refurbished and reused. They learned how these seemingly small but important steps can help protect the environment, reduce pollution and conserve natural resources. The workshop wasn’t just about technology, though – it also highlighted the social benefits of reuse. Participants learned how circular economy practices can create jobs, promote social inclusion and strengthen local communities. The discussions helped them understand that environmental sustainability and social responsibility go hand in hand.
WEEE Reuse at AGRA fair
September 2025
Agriculture is using more and more electronics – that’s why it’s important to know how to divert them into reuse, not just recycling. Participants from different agricultural sectors got to know the benefits of reuse, such as savings and new jobs in the countryside. ORZ team continued the workshop also in CPU Slovenske Konjice, where smaller farmers showed even more practical experience and solutions.

BRING YOUR SMALL HOUSEHOLD ITEMS
August 2025
ORZ invited all citizens to bring their small household items they don’t use anymore – together to repair, recycle, donate or find a creative new use for them.
Workshops with students
April-May 2025
Different events, organized by ORZ in Slovenia for students offered more than just a theory – they got experience of how can alone contribute to sustainability and learned:
- that you can with small actions at home and at school reduce generation of e-waste
- yes it is not each broken product to cart
- yes in the old days devices it’s a dick creative potential
- that it is responsible resource management key for the future our planet
Display circular uses resources (e-waste), is proof that knowledge, practice and sustainability can go hand in hand. With innovative approaches, such as them develops ORZ, young people they get insight into specific solutions for global challenges – and they become ambassadors circular economy future.
“Thanks to these creative and empowering initiatives, we believe the next generation now understands “Why e-waste is both a challenge and an opportunity?”, ORZ team

REUSING PLASTIC from E-WASTE: Challenges and Opportunities
March 2025
ORZ implements active research and application of solutions for more efficient e-waste management are being conducted. One of the key challenges addressed by eWAsTER is the reuse of plastic from electronic devices, which currently ends up mostly in landfills or incineration plants.
ORZ and the Inclusion of Vulnerable Groups
ORZ carries out practical activities in e-waste processing, actively engaging vulnerable groups in learning and employment opportunities. This means that individuals with limited access to the job market participate in sorting, processing, and shaping new products, allowing them to develop work skills and gain employment opportunities.
Plastic from e-waste poses a significant environmental challenge, but with innovative approaches like those developed in the eWAsTER project, it can be transformed into a valuable resource for new products. The creation of pet shelters is just one of the ways to repurpose high-quality materials and reduce waste production. By engaging in such projects, ORZ not only improves e-waste management but also strengthens the social economy and circular economy initiatives. The use of recycled plastic from e-waste for pet shelters is an excellent solution, as it provides thermal insulation, moisture protection, and easy maintenance while also reducing environmental impact by decreasing waste production.
