Marche Region: First Local Stakeholders Group meeting

03/01/2025

The Marche Region, in collaboration with associated partner ATA Rifiuti Ancona, is participating as a project partner in the Interreg Euro-MED eWAsTER Project.

The first online meeting of the project’s Local Stakeholders Group was held on June 28, 2024, with the involvement of the 5 Territorial Area Assemblies of the Marche Region. During the meeting, Marche Region had the opportunity to explain the objectives of the project and encourage the widest involvement of local stakeholders. Indeed, stakeholder involvement is crucial to the achievement of the project objectives, with particular reference to the drafting of the action plan. Further meetings are therefore planned, at least one per semester, to present the main steps and results of the project during its implementation.

The Energy Resources, Waste Management, Quarries and Mines Sector of Marche Region is in charge of the regional system of waste management and planning, having a strong experience in the management of international projects on waste management and prevention. It has set up the Regional Waste Management Plan and the Regional Waste Prevention Plan within, manages the plan financial resources, approves the calls, defines the evaluation and priority criteria of the projects and defines the indicators for monitoring the impact of the implemented actions.

E-waste in the region is collected separately from the rest of the waste through widespread and dedicated services:

  • First, in accordance with national regulations, they can be handed over to retailers when purchasing new electrical and electronic equipment.
  • A second e-waste collection service is related to the widespread presence throughout the region of Collection Centers, where citizens can deliver this kind of waste free of charge and independently.
  • The third collection channel is home pickup services, which are also active in a little bit of the regional territory, almost always free of charge.

Rather developed, in the regional territory, is the network of Reuse Centers, there are 25 reuse centres operating. MR is co-funding the creation of new re-use centres, whether municipal or inter-municipal. Not yet structured, however, but present in experimental forms, is the implementation of the strategy of preparing e-waste for reuse. Region Marche will work on this aspect through the design and implementation of a territorial policies for e-waste.
