An exceptional first week for UBBSLA expers since the launch of the campaign

Over 300 children from Varna region (Bulgaria) are already part of the pilot action WEEE BEHAVE.

The educational campaign “WEEE BEHAVE: Electronic waste? Recycle and save the future!” has been launched successfully in Varna, reaching over 300 children from primary schools in the city in the first week alone. The initiative, organized by the Union of Bulgarian Black Sea Local Authorities (UBBSLA) with the support of experienced and professional experts from the Public Environment Center for Sustainable Development (PECSD), aims to raise awareness about e-waste and encourage environmentally friendly behavior among the younger generation. The initiative is officially supported by the Municipality of Varna and the Regional Department of Education – Varna.

During the period 17-21 November, the UBBSLA team visited numerous schools in Varna region, where within one lesson, they introduced students from grades 1 to 4 to the essence of e-waste, its impact on the environment and the importance of recycling. Through interactive talks, educational games and practical workshops, the children learned how every part of old electronic devices can be reused. They also understood how important these efforts are for the protection of nature and human health. The campaign also includes creative elements, such as a student competition for the most creative project made from recycled materials. Children can participate individually or as teams, presenting projects in different categories: projects made from recycled electronic parts, posters, collages, drawings and presentations. The deadline for participation is December 5, and all participants will receive certificates, and the winners will be awarded special prizes.

The comprehensive campaign in Varna will continue throughout the whole month of November, with experts from UBBSLA and PECSD continuing to visit schools and hold information and educational meetings. In parallel, the school competition will stimulate children’s creativity and commitment to environmental protection.

The strong start of WEEE BEHAVE in Varna shows that education and awareness are key factors in tackling the global e-waste problem. This initiative not only teaches children the importance of recycling, but also makes them active participants in creating a cleaner and healthier environment!
