SPAIN: CEIP López Mayor de Villanueva del Trabuco Receives Award for Environmental Commitment

On 10th of December, our partner RSU-Malaga had the pleasure of welcoming the students of CEIP López Mayor de Villanueva del Trabuco, winners of the Waste Awareness Project on Electrical and Electronic Devices (RAEE), part of WEEE Behave pilot action, implemented in Spain.
Accompanied by Luis Rodríguez, President of RSU-Málaga and Provincial Deputy, the students enjoyed a special visit to the Nativity Scene installed at the Provincial Deputation of Málaga headquarters, celebrating their outstanding dedication to environmental protection. This recognition highlights the remarkable effort of the students, who collected the highest amount of electrical and electronic waste per student among the 15 participating municipalities.
This initiative has been developed in collaboration with the European eWAsTER Euro-MED Project, with the goal of educating and raising awareness among schoolchildren about the importance of correctly recycling RAEE waste at clean points—facilities specifically designed for their safe treatment and recovery.
WEEE Behave Campaign Highlights:
📍 Workshops held in 15 municipalities equipped with clean points.
🎒 Participation of 1,226 students from 27 educational centers across the province.
💻 An average of 400g of electrical and electronic waste collected per student.
♻️ RAEE waste can contain harmful substances — mercury, lead, cadmium — that pose serious environmental risks if not properly treated.
🔄 Correct management allows valuable materials such as metals, plastics, and glass to be recovered and reused.
Together, we continue fostering a culture of responsibility and sustainability among younger generations!
